Robertson Construction North East has initiated the construction of a new family culture and entertainment venue and library in Redcar, England.

A component of the Redcar Town Deal, the development is expected to rejuvenate the town centre and foster economic growth.

This project features a contemporary, multiuse facility that will serve as a hub for cultural, educational, and entertainment activities.

The development will comprise a re-envisioned central library that supports digital literacy, community learning, and children’s engagement through storytelling spaces.

Additionally, the project will include indoor family leisure attractions and enhanced connections between the town centre and the seafront.

These will be supported by an outdoor events space for community use.

Architecturally, the scheme is designed to capitalise on natural light and coastal vistas, incorporating materials and design elements that resonate with Redcar’s seaside heritage.

The project has started following the demolition of the former Marks and Spencer (M&S) and Goodwins buildings and the conclusion of necessary surveys and design consultations with neighbouring property owners.

The cultural venue is anticipated to create jobs, increase visitor numbers, and provide an uplift for local businesses, stated Robertson Construction North East.

The construction company is also redeveloping the Grade II-listed Redcar Central Station, converting it into a multifunctional hub with transport, leisure, and retail facilities.

Robertson Construction North East regional managing director Neil Kennedy said: “As main contractor, we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, with Robertson Construction North East leading the delivery of this landmark project.

“This vibrant development represents a significant regeneration opportunity for boosting the local economy, creating jobs and providing a welcoming space for the community.â€
